Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog – Review
June 1, 2010 in Comedy, Musical
Recently released on Blu Ray, I had the chance to check out Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. During the writer’s strike a few years back, Joss Whedon created a short 3 episode web series/musical. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but honestly, I was pleasently surprised.
Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) stars as Billy, AKA Dr. Horrible, a budding supervillain whose plans for world domination continually go awry. His two goals: getting accepted into the Evil League of Evil, and working up the guts to speak to his laundromat crush Penny, played by Felicia Day (The Guild). The only thing standing in his way is Captain Hammer, Billy’s superhero archnemesis played by Nathan Fillion (Firefly). With one big score, Billy could get into the E.L.E. and earn the respect of Penny, but only if he can keep her away from the dashing Captain Hammer…
The characters are quirky, but very likeable. The musical numbers are surprisingly fun and inventful, and the limited effects are competant for something of this calibre. Overall, Joss Whedon delivers a well made, fun (and very funny) short series that will appeal to most fanboys out there. I highly recommend this… If you’re a fan of Whedon, Fillion or NPH, this is a must have. Hell, i’ve already watched it 4 times!
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is currently available on DVD and Blu Ray!
