Star Trek: Into Darkness – Review
J.J. Abrams has done it again, delivering an epic sequel to his 2009 reboot to the popular franchise. Star Trek Into Darkness is a fantasticly energetic re-imagining of one of the most popular Trek adventures ever. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within

Iron man 3 – Review
I was a little leery about Shane Black directing Iron Man 3 with his last and first directorial effort being Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. He definitely proved himself capable then, but to hand off such a high profile franchise…. Black comes through though. Iron Man 3 is a fun, action packed spectacle that successfully brings

Grabbers – Review
Irish director Jon Wright brings us a genre film that is both fun and very well made. I’ve been following a lot of the recent flics from the UK lately and have found that there’s a healthy surge in the sci-fi/horror genre. Grabbers is an excellent example, bringing monsters, gore and a few laughs along

Oblivion – Review
Joseph Kosinski follows up his directorial debut (Tron: Legacy) with another science fiction flic that is impressive, visually stunning and fun. Oblivion is a tight film that sets the bar high for the Will Smith/Shyamalan sci-fi flic After Earth being released at the end of May. One of the few remaining drone repairmen assigned to

Spiders 3D – Review
Tibor Takacs directs this (what I’m assuming) straight to video film about mutated space spiders stalking the streets of New York. Spiders is definitely a step up from the average Asylum type movies, but not much. After a small piece of a Soviet space station crashes into a New York City subway tunnel, a species

Upside Down – Review
Juan Diego Solanas directs what appears to be his first English feature film, written by himself, filmed entirely in Montreal Quebec. Upside Down is a fictional love story set in a fantastical world that defies the science of gravity. Adam is an ordinary boy who lives on one of two planets, joined by opposite gravities.

Looper – Review
Rian Johnson brings us this futuristic action drama about men hired by a future mob to conduct assassinations in the past. Looper is refreshingly new, and although a little predictable at times, it’s premise is cool… and once it hits the third act, it doesn’t let go! In the year 2072 time travel is forbidden.

Dredd 3D – Review
Pete Travis, best known for the 2008 film Vantage Point, brings the newest incarnation of the long running British comic book series Judge Dredd to the big screen in a violent tour de force that leaves you wanting more. The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to

Starship Troopers: Invasion – Review
It was Paul Verhoeven’s loose adaptation of the classic Robert A. Heinlein novel Starship Troopers that spawned 2 inferior sequels and a more faithful series of CG animated cartoons called The Roughnecks. Starship Troopers Invasion takes elements of both and blends them into an awesome CG film directed by Shinji Aramaki… the same director who

Total Recall (2012) – Review
From the man who brought us the Underworld franchise, Len Wiseman tackles the remake of the 90s Schwarzenegger cult classic Total Recall. Apparently more faithful to the source material “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick, Wiseman pumps up the action and packs the screen with sharp, visually stunning eye candy.

Batman The Dark Knight Rises – Review
Christopher Nolan is back to finish off his Batman trilogy in what is probably one of this year’s most anticipated films. The Dark Knight Rises brings to a close one of the best Batman adaptations ever, touching on some of the more popular events and characters in the caped crusader’s history. Nolan has crafted a

Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World – Review
Warning – There are spoilers in this review. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is the directorial debut of Lorene Scafaria, who is also responsible for writing the screenplay. A romantic comedy/drama about finding love in the wake of disaster… the ultimate disaster. Seeking a Friend is a breath of fresh air

Prometheus – Review
Ridley Scott jumps back into the "Alien" franchise with what can be best described as a prequel of sorts to the original Alien film. Prometheus is a film that builds onto, and attempts to answer questions about vaguely hinted origins. Make no mistake though, Prometheus is not a "by the numbers" walk in the park sci-fi. It's deep, intelligent, and open to speculation.

Men In Black III – Review
Barry Sonnenfeld returns for the third and probably last installment to the popular Men in Black franchise. Men in Black III takes a comfortable stroll through a familiar park where everything feels just right. Sonnenfeld, and of course the writers, don’t take any risks with the characters or the very formulaic structure of the series.

Battleship – Review
Directed by Peter Berg, Battleship is a fun, fairly under rated (what did you expect?), turn off your brain popcorn flic. Berg is a competent director and it shows in the film. Being responsible for some of my favorite underdogs like Very Bad Things, The Rundown, The Kingdom and Hancock, I wasn’t too quick to
